Keroka's Nyachae bags 10,000m title in Kattiso championships

Nyachae will intensify his training for next week's national championships at the Nyayo Stadium.

Nobert Nyachae of Keroka won the men’s 10, 000m race on day one of the Kenya Technical Training Institutes Sports Organisation track and field championships at Asumbi Teachers Training College on Friday.

Nyachae clocked 30:02.04 to bag the gold medal. He was followed by Vincent Amota of Kisii National Polytechnic (31:52.04) and Davins Oigara of Keroka (33:37.27).

“It was a technical race that is why I stayed with the leading for the better part of the race. I decided to break away with 800m to go and went all the way to win,” said Nyachae.

Nyachae will intensify his training for next week's national championships at the Nyayo Stadium.

Dorothy Atina of Kisii National Polytechnic won the women's 5,000m race in 20:52.47. She beat Jelda Monyenye of Keroka (21:15.44) and Finity Adhiambo of Seme (22:44.28).  

In the 1, 500m race, Mary Ongeri of Keroka bagged the 1,500m title in 5:40.22. Petronilla Isaboke of Riatirimba was second in 6:01.47 and Martha Seko of Rachuonyo third in 6:10.84.  

Keroka’s Hesborn Nyakeriga led from start to finish to win the 3, 000m steeplechase. He finished in 9:52.68. Hagai Oyoko of Rachuonyo was second in 10:23.40 and Felix Otieno of Seme third in 10:44.44.

Francis Oduor of Siaya won the men’s 10, 000m walk race in  45:36.00. Kevin Ondieki (47:30.42) of Kisii National Polytechnic and Caleb Miruka (49:01.10) of Bondo completed the podium places.
