Kenyans to get passports within 3 days, PS Bitok affirms

He said the services will be devolved to ensure they are offered within all constituencies

PS for Immigration and Citizen Services Julius Bitok has affirmed that Kenyans will be able to get passports within three days after application.

Speaking in Moiben in Uasin Gishu on Saturday, Bitok said ongoing reforms will ensure the travel documents are processed within the three days as from August.

Bitok said the government had almost completed modernisation of machinery required for the issuance of passports smoothly.

Currently, he says it takes at least two weeks to process passports but the period will be reduced to three days.

"All this is in line with President Ruto's policies to ensure Kenyans easily access government services and operating quickly and smoothly," Bitok said.

He said his department was also devolving the same services to ensure government services are offered within all constituencies.

"By taking the services closer to the people we will be working in line with President Ruto's bottom up economic plans to improve life for Kenyans especially those at the bottom of the pyramid", said Bitok.

Bitok was speaking at Moiben in Uasin Gishu where he opened a CRS office to take services closer to residents.

He was with area MP Professor Phyllis Bartoo and area County Commissioner Dr Eddison Nyale.

He said the government would roll out massive issuance of the Maisha Number under the Maisha eco-system project.

"The Maisha Number will be a lifetime identification number to be used from birth to death by all Kemyans," said Bitok.

He said the government had so far opened 175 CRS offices across the country and they will also be used to give out the third generation IDs known as Maisha Cards which will be smart cards.

"We are also rolling out the digital IDs which will be used instead of the physical IDs", said Bitok.

He said all government would be connected to the Maisha eco-system.

Bitok assured residents that President Ruto was committed to transformation of the lives of Kenyans through economic and social reforms.

"The president is so passionate about ensuring that Kenyans enjoy quality life and we all must work to support his initiatives which are well thought out", said Bitok.

Bitok also presided over issuance of the first birth certificates to be processed at the Moiben CRS office

The PS also issued cheques for Uwezo Fund in the Constituency.
