National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has implored Members of Parliament especially from the opposition to refrain from criticising the proposed Finance Bill 2024 in funerals and other public events and help the public understand it better.

The Ford Kenya leader spoke in Kabuchai Constituency in Bungoma County on Wednesday during the burial of Mzee Yonah Namuli.

The Speaker, however, called on the MPs to use the one-month recess to reflect on the propose Bill stating that it’s the lawmakers's committees in the National Assembly that came up with the budget.

“You are the people who come up with the budget proposals through your committees, please save the public agony and refrain from standing before the public and lamenting much about the Finance Bill 2024 yet you are the ones to come up with the budget proposals,” Wetang’ula said.

“The MPs should sit down and do things that can benefit the people of Kenya, the electorate depends and trusts in you because they voted for you.”

Wetang’ula asked Bungoma residents to support President William Ruto’s government highlighting ongoing development projects in the county.

Wetang’ula cited the ongoing construction of Sh300 million Chwele, Chebukube and Kamukunywa markets in Kimilili.

He also highlighted the rehabilitation of the Malala-Kanduyi road which he said will be upgraded to an A road standard to accomodate heavy commercial trucks.

He also said that the government will release Sh25 million for the expansion and construction of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) in the Kabuchai constituency.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also blamed some MPs who he said have been at the forefront in opposing the proposed Finance Bill 2024.

“Instead of making noise and disagreeing on the Finance Bill 2024 as leaders from this region we should position ourselves as a Luhya community to begin a discussion on how we will have a big share of the budget that is going to come,” MP Barasa said.

Accompanying the National Assembly speaker at the funeral were Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, his deputy Pastor Jenipher Mbatiany, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga and Bungoma Woman MP Catherine Wambilianga.
